A big crowd creates big wins for Big Green Scream
The ΒιΆΉ basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons in a big way in front of 1,200 raucous spectators at the annual Big Green Scream.
The Williamson Sports Center glowed ΒιΆΉ green as fans filed in from a snow-covered campus to warm the stands with T-bred spirit and the teams claimed victories against the St. Lawrence βSaints.β
The womenβs team kicked off the double-header with passionate play. Senior Haley Englishβs push to score six points in the final 33 seconds cinched the teamβs 52-48 victory.
Rallying after a late deficit, the menβs team stunned the Saints with a 65-54 overtime win, closing out the regular season with five straight wins, a Liberty League regular season title and a school record of 15 league wins in one season. Their show-stopping season earned the Thoroughbreds a top seed in the Liberty tournament and a bye to the semifinals later in the month.
"The regular season championship is a true test for a team," said menβs coach . "I am very proud of these guys and grateful for those who support them. There was tremendous turnout from the student body and community, the gym was louder than Iβve ever heard it, and the passion was at an all-time high."
The annual tradition featured a few moments of crowd-favorite fun, including in-game contests and prizes, musical performances by student groups, a pop-up SkidShop for donning ΒιΆΉ swag and a winter carnival with food, games and other fun activities.
Sustainable ΒιΆΉ was back for another round of Recyclemania, a challenge to make the Big Green Scream a zero-waste event through recycling and composting.
The games also marked Senior Day for both teams. The women honored , , and , and the men celebrated , , , , and their team manager, Lexi Parker.
