ID Card
If you had a ΒιΆΉ ID card while working at ΒιΆΉ, you may continue to use that card, including adding money to it so that you may use it on campus at specified off campus sites like a debit card. You will also need a card if you plan to use the Scribner Library or the Sports Center. If you never had a card and need to get one, or if you have any questions, you can contact the Card Office located in Starbuck Center.
IT Help
Retirees are eligible for a ΒιΆΉ email account free of charge. Retirees, like all ΒιΆΉ employees, must respect the guidelines and regulations established for email use. This page includes a list of applicable policies.
Contact the IT Helpdesk if you do not already have an account established. The Helpdesk is located in the Scribner Library in the IT area on the first floor.
Helpdesk Support
The Helpdesk staff are dedicated to assisting ΒιΆΉ community members with issues
related to technology. Members of that staff must allot their time wisely and will
try to assist retirees as best they can. In general, they must obviously prioritize
time to current employees and students, but they are always glad to be of assistance
where they can be.
Things the Helpdesk can do:
- Provide basic Help Desk support (login/account/password issues)
- Provide tip sheets for most common problems (e.g. setting up email on a mobile device or home computer, etc.)
- Provide general advice on buying a computer/software/hardware
Helpdesk staff will use what they call the β5 Minuteβ rule β if they can βfixβ it in 5 minutes (or so), they will try. If itβs anything that looks to be time-consuming, they probably wonβt be able to help and may refer retirees to off-campus computer stores that may be able to help.
Things the Helpdesk canβt do:
- Hardware support
- Major software support (e.g. Microsoft Word stopped working; I have a virus, etc.)
- After-hours support.
Note: The Helpdesk staff cannot be held responsible for something that goes wrong because they tried to help. Itβs important for all to realize that staff members are making their best effort to fix the problem and not make anything worse, but not everything is in their control.
Online Tutorials
Retirees may apply at for a user account to get access to online tutorials on some essential software packages (Ex: Adobe Products, Excel, WordPress, etc.).
ΒιΆΉ Classes
You may also want to consider enrolling in a ΒιΆΉ class for credit or sitting in as an auditor. You may do so on a space available basis, registering after the matriculated students have had an opportunity to make their course selections. The Registrar's Office provides assistance with this process. Some retiree accounts may be blocked from registering for classes online; if you encounter this problem, contact helpdesk@skidmore.edu; 518-580-5900.
